sonnenBatterie Protect-Plus (for the Hybrid 9.53) Installation & Configuration
To assist with the installation of the sonnenBatterie Hybrid 9.53, with backup function and optional AC coupled solar PV, the Protect-Plus has been designed to create a simple pre-wired integration solution for installers.
The concept is simply, there is an AC feed from the 'Grid Supply' to the sonnenProtect-Plus and there are two AC supplies that in turn go out; one to the 'Essential Loads', and another to supply the 'Non-Essential Loads'. The units will also allow for an 'AC Coupled Solar PV System' input as well.
The connection process is then for the installer to simply plug into the sonnenBatterie Hybrid 9.53 from the sonnenProtect-Plus the AC & backup plug connectors and the Modbus connection. The Protect-plus comes pre-wired with all of the metering and CT's installed.
(The Ethernet (Internet) connection is left for the installer to install based on the specific requirements and options available at the site).
The sonnenProtect-Plus comes in an IP66 outdoor enclosure fully labeled as per the requirements of Australian Standards

The sonnenProtect-Plus comes with the mounting kits for the enclosure and a key to open/close it. There is also contained within the unit the backup cable which runs between the Protect-Plus and the Hybrid 9.53, there Hybrid manuals, PV connectors and some of the other miscellaneous cables and Z-Wave USB.
The sonnenBatterie Protect-Plus replaces the sonnen Protect 2500 and also the accessory kit for the sonnenBatterie Hybrid 9.53.

The following illustration explains the functions and internal connections of the sonnenProtect-Plus. What is important to note is that at no time does the MEN become broken as when the grid fails a new MEN (Earth - Neutral connection) is temporally made within the Hybrid 9.53 main unit.

The sonnenProtect-Plus has a series of possible configurations given it's versatile design. The common 3 options are as follows:

sonnenBatterie Protect-Plus Installation Safety Procedure
The sonnenProtect-Plus has built into it an emergency power supply which is designed to supplement the sonnenBatterie hybrid 9.53. In conjunction with the appropriate system the sonnenProtect-Plus serves to supply power in the event of a power failure. Any other use is considered improper use.

- Only install the device to enable operation the sonnenProtect-Plus together with the right storage system.
- The sonnenProtect-Plus must be installed by an authorised, qualified and licensed electrician.
- The sonnenProtect-Plus must only be connected to the sonnenBatterie Hybrid 9.3 storage systems.
- Intended use includes observing the diagrams and schematics contained within this page and not modifying any of the pre-wired / installed connections and / or components supplied with the device.
- The sonnenProtect-Plus must only be used at a suitable installation location.
- Sensible transport and storage conditions must be observed.
- The following uses are not permissible:
- Operation in flammable environments or areas at risk of explosion.
- Operation in locations at risk of flooding.
- Operation in an outdoor location whereby the supplied IP rating of the enclosure has not remained intact.
